Is using Google Flights good? ›

Google Flights is a reliable, legitimate, and trustworthy site for flight searching. In general, its prices are accurate and reflect the same prices as you'll find on the airline websites and other OTAs. However, in rare instances, Google Flights prices are wrong, or more accurately, the price info is outdated.

"There's not much benefit to buying your tickets on a certain day of the week," according to the Google report. Google Flights does state that Tuesdays are typically the cheapest day of the week to book, according to the data, but Tuesday bookings are only 1.3% cheaper than the most expensive day, Sunday.

Google Flights requires a partnership with either the airline itself or a data provider with access to an airline's fares in order to display prices to consumers. Currently, the search engine doesn't have such an arrangement with Southwest.

Google will stop offering the option to book a flight directly through the site after Sept. 30 for most of the world. The search engine will then similarly end the option in the United States after March 31, 2023, the company confirmed to Travel + Leisure.

Best Time To Book Domestic Flights

While you don't need to plan too far out, you also don't want to wait until the last minute to purchase domestic flights. The Expedia study found that the sweet spot to book is around 28 days before departure, where travelers save an average of 24% compared to those who wait.

You can find cheap flight deals to anywhere in the world on Google Flights. Just enter your departure city, choose Anywhere as the destination, and select Explore. You can pick specific dates or leave departure and return dates blank if your plans are flexible. The cheapest fares to popular destinations will appear.

Airlines often adjust their pricing based on how far in advance it is from the flight in question. Generally, booking a roundtrip ticket a few months ahead of time can secure a better deal than waiting until the last minute.

Sundays and Mondays are the most expensive days to depart for domestic trips. If you can't fly on the cheapest days, flying on Tuesdays or Fridays might also be a good option. The average airfare is about 12% lower than peak Sunday prices on these days.

You may not get cheaper airfare by booking on a specific day, but when you plan on flying can affect the price of the ticket. Generally, Mondays and Fridays are more expensive than Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Google Flights partners with over 300 airlines, online travel agencies and aggregators to obtain flight offers. A partnership with Google is required, so not every airline or online travel agency is represented. Some airlines only display a subsection of their flights on Google Flights.

One study found Google Flights has a 97% accuracy rate for flight schedules and fares. Another study revealed that Google Flights' prices were within 1% of airline website prices 94% of the time.
